ANTHONY R. SCISCIANI III
PARTNER

Tony joined Scheer & Zehnder LLP in 2002 and became a Partner in 2008. He has extensive experience handling a variety of complex, civil matters throughout both Washington and Oregon. He works closely with the firm's construction clients to resolve disputes at all phases of the construction, development and/or sale of residential, commercial and mixed-use properties. Tony also represents businesses and individuals with claims involving liens, personal injury, wrongful-death and premises liability issues. He has successfully resolved cases in state, federal and appellate courts, as well as through mediation and arbitration. Finally, Tony draws upon his litigation experience to assist with clients’ risk management procedures, including drafting of contracts and early (non-litigated) claim resolution.

Tony was lead trial counsel for the general contractor in the “Fauntleroy Place” case (aka “West Seattle Whole Foods”), which involved our client’s claims for lien foreclosure, breach of contract, violation of the Consumer Protection Act and violation of the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act. Tony advised the client as it completed the work – and he prepared/recorded the lien and eventually filed suit for nonpayment. After extensive litigation involving several parties, we obtained a judgment in late 2010 in the full amount of our client’s claim: more than $4.0 million plus attorneys’ fees, costs and interest. Tony also has been lead trial counsel on jury trials involving construction defect and personal injury claims.

Tony has been recognized four times – in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011 – as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers (a publication of Thomson Reuters). In 2005, and by a vote of his peers, Mr. Scisciani was named the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers Association ("WDTL") Outstanding Litigation Associate. Tony also served as the 2010 Chairperson of the WDTL Construction Section.

Prior to joining Scheer & Zehnder LLP in 2002, Tony was a Deputy Prosecutor at the Office of the King County Prosecuting Attorney, where he assisted primarily with the prosecution of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges. He is licensed to practice in both Washington and Oregon. Tony also is licensed to practice in the Western District (Federal) Court of Washington. Tony is an active member of the Washington State Bar Association, the Oregon State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, WDTL and the King County Bar Association.

Tony speaks frequently at seminars and other venues for other attorneys, insurers, businesses, trade groups and professional associations on a variety of topics including construction law, legislative updates, trial strategy, dispute resolution, litigation, risk management and civil procedure.

Tony received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond in Virginia. After working for two years as a paralegal with Jones Day in Washington, D.C., Tony enrolled at Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his Juris Doctor (with Honors) in 2001. Before graduation, Tony was selected by the Dean to represent his law school on the National Law School Dean's List. Tony is an original Seattle Sounders FC season ticket holder and his personal interests include home improvements, hiking, kayaking, bicycling and soccer.
